Welcome to Chiropractic Neurology Center, a Long Beach chiropractic practice specializing in chiropractic neurology, neurological examinations, and individualized chiropractic care.

Since opening our doors in October 2000, we have been dedicated to providing patients throughout Long Beach, Los Angeles, and surrounding Southern California communities with personalized care focused on the relationship between the brain, nervous system, spine, movement, balance, and overall function. The practice has now seen more than 10,000 patients since opening.

Our practice was founded by Dr. Shad Groves, D.C., DACNB, FACFN, M.S. Clinical Neuroscience and Dr. Karin Kim, D.C., M.S. Clinical Neuroscience. Together, they bring extensive clinical experience and advanced education in chiropractic and clinical neuroscience to every patient they serve.

Our philosophy is straightforward: listen carefully, examine thoroughly, educate our patients, and develop individualized care based on their unique needs.

What is chiropractic neurology?

Chiropractic neurology is a specialized approach to chiropractic care that focuses on the relationship between the brain, nervous system, sensory systems, movement, balance, and the body.

At Chiropractic Neurology Center, we use a detailed examination process to evaluate neurological and functional aspects of each patient's health. The information gathered during an examination can help our doctors determine whether chiropractic neurology may be appropriate and what types of care may best fit the individual.

Chiropractic neurology may incorporate a variety of non-invasive neurological, sensory, movement, and chiropractic techniques, depending on the patient's examination findings and goals.

Our approach may include:

  • Neurological and chiropractic examinations
  • Manual chiropractic adjustments
  • Instrument-assisted chiropractic adjustments, including Activator-style techniques
  • Eye-movement exercises
  • Visual and sensory stimulation
  • Neurological-based exercises
  • Coordination and balance activities
  • Vestibular exercises and rehabilitation
  • Manual traction
  • Massage and soft-tissue care when appropriate
  • Movement and functional exercises
  • X-rays when clinically indicated

Every patient is different, and treatment is selected based on the individual's history, examination findings, needs, and response to care.

Specialized chiropractic neurology examination

Understanding how your nervous system functions

We believe that effective care begins with a thorough understanding of the individual.

A chiropractic neurology examination may evaluate different aspects of neurological and physical function, including:

  • Balance and coordination
  • Eye movements and visual function
  • Sensory processing
  • Posture and movement
  • Reflexes
  • Neurological function
  • Vestibular function
  • Musculoskeletal and spinal function

The purpose of this examination is to help our doctors better understand how the patient's nervous system and body are functioning and determine what approaches may be appropriate. Rather than relying solely on a patient's symptoms, we look at the whole person and the way different systems of the body interact.

Individualized chiropractic neurology treatment

There is no single treatment approach that is right for everyone.

Following an examination, our doctors may recommend a combination of chiropractic, neurological, sensory, vestibular, and therapeutic techniques based on each patient's individual needs. For some patients, care may involve traditional chiropractic adjustments. For others, treatment may emphasize sensory stimulation, neurological exercises, eye exercises, balance activities, or other non-force techniques.

Gentle, non-force chiropractic options

We understand that some patients prefer not to have their spine manually adjusted or are uncomfortable with traditional chiropractic techniques. Chiropractic neurology provides additional options for care, including approaches that use sensory and neurological stimulation without necessarily applying a traditional spinal adjustment.

Our doctors work with each patient to determine appropriate techniques while taking the patient's comfort, preferences, health history, and examination findings into consideration.

Patient education is part of our care

We believe that understanding your body can be an important part of taking responsibility for your health. Our doctors take time to explain examination findings, discuss appropriate care options, and answer questions so patients can make informed healthcare decisions.

Our goal isn't simply to provide treatment. We want our patients to understand how their nervous system and body function and how they can actively participate in their own health and well-being.

A collaborative approach to healthcare

We believe healthcare works best when professionals work together in the patient's best interest. Chiropractic neurology can be one component of a person's overall healthcare. When appropriate, we may recommend consultation, referral, or collaboration with other qualified healthcare professionals.

Our commitment is to provide appropriate care while recognizing when another healthcare provider's expertise may be beneficial. The patient's health and best interests always come first.
